Fuzzy Birdie

I still cannot get enough of my Pink Paislee Vintage Pop stamps!  This cute little bird is from the set and I'm about to go and stamp and make another card with another of the images.
This card fits in with Thursday's Ways to Use It Challenge at SCS which was to use birds.
I stamped the bird with Memento Rich Cocoa  on Neenah Solar White and then colored him in with Copics.  Then I cut him out and embossed him with a square Nestability and matted him on  a Rose Red square and Tempting Turquoise square that were also cut out with Nestabilites.  Then I covered him with my Quickie Glue Pen and used Doodlebug Crushed Velvet Flock on top of him.  I love how soft and fuzzy he is!  His eye kind of got lost under all the flocking so I added a dot of Cinnamon Stickles over his eye for a tiny bit of bling.  The cardbase is Rose Red and the patterned paper is from BasicGrey's Euphoria line---I looooooooooooove this paper!!!!!!  I mounted my focal image on dimensionals and ran a piece of Turquoise Grosgrain ribbon around the card.  The sentiment is from my SAB rubons that I'm slowly using over time.  Finally, I added some piercing around the edges of the focal piece to frame it even a little more.
Isn't this cute!!!!  I never would have put these colors together but the patterned paper has some really cool colors in it and I think it actually works!

Two Glasses of Wine

My dad sent this to me and I really think it's something important for us all to remember. At times, I feel really stressed out by all that life throws at me and this is something that I need to keep in the back of my mind!

TWO GLASSES OF WINE

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine!

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favourite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.'

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.'

'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. Do one more run down the ski slope. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the waste disposal. Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.'

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented.

The professor smiled. 'I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend.'

Rockin' Skull

Ok, I think you're going to be seeing a lot more of my Pink Paislee Vintage Pop set. I love all the images and they're so much fun!!!!!

We've got a birthday party to attend for the next 3 weekends, plus there's also a wedding to go to so I've got lots of *real* reasons to stamp these days. I made this card for a friend of ds who's turning 7 and he saw it, liked it, but then told me that his friend likes purple and I need to make him a purple card. So, this may be going to someone else. . .

Here's the deets: cardbase is Going Gray and other cardstock used is Basic Black, Real Red, & Neenah Solar White. Patterned paper is from the Rock Star Paper Pack by DCWV. Ribbon is from SU's Jersey Ribbon Originals. The little skull embellishment is some grungeboard that I painted with a silver acrylic paint dauber. Ink used is Memento Tuxedo Black and Brilliance Rocket Red. Other items used include stickles, copics, circle Nestabilities, and Ranger Glossy Accents.

and. . .I have a confession to make. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig for the first time ever on this card! I tried to use markers to ink up the sentiment (which is from Verve Visual) but the markers just weren't working on the acrylic for me and I really wanted the little pop of red. I don't know what I waited for. The Stamp-a-ma-jig is pretty cool and I may have to break it out a little more. I always felt too lazy to do it but then again, when you see how much crap I pull out to make a card, what's one more tool?

Luv this dino!

DD has a birthday party for one of her classmates this Sunday and here's the card I made. I think it's perfect for a little boy who's turning 4, don't you? I got the cutest stamp set that I've been eyeing for awhile at my LSS recently. It's Pink Paislee's Vintage Pop and it's so perfect for kid's cards. I know I'll get a lot of use out of this one. I think I may have to start buying more Pink Paislee stuff because it's so darn cute!!!!

I stamped the dino in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Neenah Solar White and colored him in with copics. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Mixed Messages and is also stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black. The dino is cut out with oval Nestabilities and then matted on Basic Black and Wild Wasabi which were also cut out with oval Nesties. The cardbase is Wild Wasabi and the patterned paper is from Sassafras Lass. Brads are retired SU Vintage Brads and the ribbon is from one of the SU ribbon originals but I can't remember which one at this time. The focal image is up on dimensionals. I used a little bit of my black Copic Spica glitter pen on his eye and the little horns on his back--are they horns or what exactly are they called?.

Anyway, it's late and I need to hit the hay. 2 more days of work until I'm on vacation :-)

A winner!

Random.org picked #19 so awna, email me your snail mail address and I'll get the magazine out to you.

I really enjoyed reading all of your responses and I absolutely love summer, especially in the Bay Area. We tend to have Indian Summers here and October is usually a great time to be here. Then again, our weather doesn't go through extreme fluctuations--I don't know how those of you who live in those areas do it. I couldn't deal with snow one day followed by warm weather a few weeks after. I like having one year round wardrobe :-)

3 things I love about summer:
1. Staying outside in the evenings bbqing and watching the kids play
2. Playing in the water
3. Beaches and vacations!

Little Monkeys Storage

So, I thought I'd give you an update on the Little Monkeys storage system. I bought a starter kit and extra inserts and sleeves and fell in love! I had to go ahead and get another starter system, more sleeves and inserts, and tabs to help me separate them into categories.

These 2 boxes hold 39 SU stamp sets, 3 MissyB Designs sets, 7 Rubber Romance Stamps (and you know how big those puppies are), a few Bellas with room for more, and other miscellaneous stamps. The majority of my stamps are on regular EZ-Mount but a lot of the sentiments and smaller ones are on the thin EZ-Mount. I'd probably be able to get a few more sleeves and inserts in each box if they were all on the thin EZ-Mount but I don't see myself switching everything over at this point. All in all, I'm happy that these 2 small boxes hold what was in roughly 50 CD cases!!!!! It's a definite space savings and I'm really happy with it. At this point, I think I'm only going to use it for rubber stamps and I'll keep my acrylics in CD cases but I may change my mind over time. I didn't like the way the acrylic stamps stuck to the sleeve as well as the insert sheet, plus it's harder to tell what stamp is which. I like being able to pick up the CD case and read the sentiments but since I can't see through the inserts, it's not happening here!

I didn't plan on being home today. My last day of work before vacation is Friday but on the way in, the 6 yo decided to throw up all over himself in the car. . . sigh, the joys of parenthood! He's engrossed in watching DVDs right now so I'm planning to get some stamping done. I did a little last night and my mojo is missing!

It's Summer!

It's summer time and I needed a new look! I really like it and it makes me happy. Dina did an awesome job for me.

So, how about a give away? I accidently bought 2 copies of this magazine and I definitely don't need 2 :-)

Leave me a comment and tell me 3 things that you love about summer. I'll randomly select someone on Wednesday June 25, 2008 at 3 pm PST.

Changing Names

So, after seeing what happened to a fellow blogger that I visit regularly, I decided to go ahead and buy my domain name. It's not likely that anything bad would happen to this little site but just in case, I didn't want to have to worry about it.

So, if you're a subscriber, my new blog address is www.kathatstamps.com without the blogspot any longer.

Thanks for visiting! One more week of work for me and I'm on vacation :-)

I'm still here

I'm still blurfing but haven't been able to leave comments lately. I'm swamped at work and our modem at home was done for a couple days, plus we've just been plain busy in general. I think I'll be a little more free once I get through this week.

I have not put ink to paper in way tooooooooooo long! I hope I remember how to stamp when I get the chance to do it. However, I did manage to organize a bunch of stamps last night. I got my Little Monkeys starter set with some extra inserts and sleeves and managed to fill it up. It's amazing!!!!! I got 3-4 full SU sets on each insert!!!!!!! This box takes up way less room than the CD cases I've been using. I need to order another one with inserts for the rest of my SU sets. I don't think I'm going to use them for my acrylic stamps since they kind of stick to the sleeve, plus it's hard for me to tell what each acrylic stamp in on the insert--it's easier for me to tell when they're in the CD cases. So far, I'm loving it and I highly recommend that you get one if you've been thinking about it.

Sunday Pics

No stamping right now. My LSS had their huge once a year sale with 3 different Make and Take sessions of 4 projects each yesterday. I got a few new goodies that I'm going to play with and share with you.

The weather is gorgeous right now and we spent a good amount of time at the golf course today. I took a few pics of dd while dh and the boys hit balls. I think I'm starting to get the hang of using my new camera for portrait shots but still need to learn more about it. I'm doing an online class but don't always have the time to follow the lessons. A camera store near me has classes and the one I want to take doesn't fit my schedule. This is definitely on my to do list this summer.

Yes, she does have a couple small white specks on her nose. She was eating white M&Ms and rubbed her face. I love both of these pics. I love how I got her in the first one and the background is really blurred. I love how the light is hitting her on the second one and the expression on her face. Of course, she had to tell me "no more pictures now" when she got tired of the camera following her around :-)

Zany Featured Stamper

I was really excited to see that one of my blogging buddies was last Sunday's Featured Stamper at SCS. I *met* Maren when she was one of my SCS3 blogging buddies and was immediately impressed at her amazing creations. I knew it was just a matter of time before she moved on to bigger and better things. She's now on a few design teams that I know are keeping her busy and had to drop out of SCS3. This doesn't mean I don't visit her blog regularly!

I'm also really excited to say that I have one of her cards in my hot little hands and I can honestly say that they are as gorgeous, if not more, in real life as they are when she photographs them.

Anyway, here's the card I decided to case: Birthday Drinks. I pretty much followed the layout but changed up the colors, patterned paper, stamps sets, and I used a small circle punch for my sentiment instead of the word window punch. I changed it from a birthday card to a thank you card since I'm still finishing up the thank you cards for my little guy's 6th birthday.

Here's the deets:

Stamps: Prehistoric Pals (SU) and Mixed Messages (PTI)
Paper: Wild Wasabi, Pumpkin Pie, Naturals Ivory (SU), Archaic DP (BasicGrey)
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Chocolate Chip, Wild Wasabi (SU)
Extras: Circle Nestabilities (Spellbinder), 3/4 inch circle punch (SU), Corner Rounder punch (SU retired), Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain (SU), Stampin Dimensionals (SU), Pop Up Glue Dots (SU)

I totally and completely love the BasicGrey Archaic line. I generally buy the 6X6 pads and use the paper up a little at a time but I've already used several sheets from my pad and now I'm out! I love the colors and since my oldest is addicted to dinosaurs, this paper is perfect in my household. I think that I'm going to have to get more of this paper when I visit my LSS this weekend.

The card base is Wild Wasabi and I attached a piece of dp that I had rounded the bottom two corners to the bottom part of the card. I cut out my circles with my Nesties and then stamped the dino with Close to Cocoa classic ink on the Naturals Ivory circle and adhered it to the Pumpkin Pie circle. I attached this to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals. I punched out a bunch of 3/4" circles and then I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Naturals Ivory with Chocolate Chip classic ink and then edged it with Wild Wasabi. You really can't see it in the pic but it's pretty subtle and I think matting it on Wild Wasabi would have been a little too much. I attached this to the dp with a pop up glue dot so it would be higher than the dino image. Finally, I tied a piece of Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain across the top and all done!

Now, I just have to have ds sign his name and pop all these thank yous in the envies and I'm good to go.

LSC Thanks

I took this pic of my 6yo earlier and played around with it some while editing and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!!!!!!!! I seriously love his eyelashes and love the fact that he's still my cuddly little guy. Dh thinks I baby him too much but I disagree. Then again, how can you not just baby this little guy?

Anyway, he just turned 6 last weekend and I'm working on his thank you cards. I used Friday's Limited Supplies challenge which was to make 3 cards using the same materials but different layouts. Here were the limitations:

Stamps ~ any, but must be the same for each card.

Cardstock and Ink ~ any, but must be the same for each card.

Techniques ~ any, but must be... ok, do you see the pattern here??

Embellishments ~ you must use hardware (since we were deprived last week, hehe!) and ribbon only, but must, yep, you guessed it, be the same for each card.

So, I started out with a Soft Sky cardbase and used Neenah Solar White, Regal Rose, and Pumpkin Pie for the other colors. The hardware is from the Stylized silver Hodgepodge Hardware kit and the ribbon is striped Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain. The patterned paper is from Sassafras Lass's Sunshine Lollipop Wee Bundle--I love this stuff because the colors rock!

I stamped Moon Doggy from The Cat's Pajamas in Memento Tuxedo Black on the white cardstock and colored with the following markers. This image is cut out with my rectangle nestabilities and matted on another rectangle and scalloped rectangle that was also cut out with nestabilities. The sentiment is from SU's All Holidays and is also stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black on the card.

I think these are darling!!!! and I only have about 10 more thank you cards to make :-)

I'll be back--dh has some work to do tonight so I'll get some stamping done when I get the kidlets to bed.
